In the past couple weeks we have seen high summer outside temps of 35+C and the inside temps are not much slower. The PC is still performing fine but the overall temps are significantly higher with everything running 60-65C. While this is technically OK (but not ideal) for a CPU temp, what about everything else. 65C is pretty warm.

Now this is a permanent problem: When my PC boots it takes about 5sec until my watercooling fans start to turn at 100% RPM, about 10sec later when the desktop appeared and I instantly start SpeedFan it tells me that core temps are already at 80-90°, half a minute later they are all on 98-100°C.

With temps like this, if you’re going to stick the SN770 in a motherboard that doesn’t have M.2 heatsinks, make sure there’s good air-flow over the drive. Enabling Gaming Mode on the SN770 essentially disables any power-saving / sleep features, so the drive is always at the ready.
I also considered the the temps were showing in F, rather than C, but I have double and triple checked this, and the temp in the BIOS is clearly given in degrees C, not F. Could be a typo in the BIOS, but given that I just grabbed the latest of several BIOS updates, seems extremely unlikely that they still haven't caught that.
