Demonstratives are the words we use to point to people, things, places, and ideas: this, that, these, and those. For ESL learners, they look simple at first, but they affect meaning in everyday speaking and writing more than many grammar topics. I teach this point early because small choices such as “this book” or “those books” instantly show number, distance, and sometimes attitude ...

I'd even start with 0.5 times 3.5 -- it feels normal to add 0.5 to itself 3 times, then not-too-bad to add it once more 1/2 a time. That establishes "add 1/2 a time" is fine and fits the repeated-addition pattern.

arithmetic - 0.5 times 0.5 equals 0.25, but how does this work with ...

Your title says something else than "infinity times zero". It says "infinity to the zeroth power". It is also an indefinite form because $$\infty^0 = \exp (0\log \infty) $$ but $\log\infty=\infty$, so the argument of the exponential is the indeterminate form "zero times infinity" discussed at the beginning.

Someone recently asked me why a negative $\times$ a negative is positive, and why a negative $\times$ a positive is negative, etc. I went ahead and gave them a proof by contradiction like this: As...

The solution is to restore the table N times by using UNDROP; and it only works if there is no table with the same name. N is a number of times the table is recreated using CREATE OR REPLACE; and time travel doesn't work as CREATE OR REPLACE drops the table and recreates it. I have created a table with some dummy data to test it.

sql - Restore the data from the table recreated multiple times in ...

Discussion of boats, general boating questions and anything else directly related to a boat or an engine.

I picked up a project boat a few days ago, okay maybe more than a few. Back when I first signed up.LOL (Let the wise cracks begin) I?ve been a little busy. Anyway, has anyone used a spray or roll on bed liner to coat the inside of an aluminum boat. My project is a little v-bottom with some...

I don't want an electrical field emanating from my aluminum boat. How would you suggest creating an isolated bonding and ground plane for my boat? Is it necessary (goal is to protect boat)? Do agree battery negative should NOT be connected to the boat?

Re: Plug on the inside or outside of the boat? You've got to remember that most boat's plugs cannot be easily reached from the inside. The advantage though to inside is you can literally use it to get water out . . . With a boat on plane water will rush out of the drain hole, so if you have a leak or take on a lot of water in a small boat without a bilge pump you can get her on a slow plane ...

Re: boat in my driveway??? Around here it?s pretty common for communities or homeowners associations to have covenants against storing a boat on your property. There are no local laws against it but the agreement not to store a boat is written into your deed. Check with your homeowners association for such covenants and if they don?t exist I?d fight it in court.

A couple of years ago I was having a discussion with some other very, very old timers in the boating industry, talking about California and Arizona boat builders past and present. And then it started....a list! We've probably overlooked a few, but maybe you can help and add a name or two. I...

Re: Homemade boat cover bows / poles I needed to raise the stern part of the cover a couple feet, so I buil;t a frame back there: put 2' long pieces of broomstick in the rod holders, then got a piece of 2" PVC the width of the boat, and put a 90* bend in each end to fit over the sticks. Held the cover up enough to shed water.

Re: Boat taking on water Have you ran it and looked at all hoses etc? If it's not bellows, and it takes on water while on muffs, it certainly sounds like an engine cooling system issue. Hose, manifold (s), thermostat housing, fuel cooler (not sure on 4.3) etc. I think I'll move this to the Merc I/O section. Not sure how water entering hull on muffs could not be engine/drive related. This ...

Re: Moving a boat with a Lawnmower? My old boat i had was a 14' bayliner, i'm guessing around 1,000 lbs. I used to move it around my paved driveway with an old, small 8 or 10hp riding lawnmower. It worked fine in low gear, but then again it was a small boat. It was a funny sight, but very maneuverable. I would sugguest something a little bigger and heavier for your situation, since you will be ...
